DOC A-04Accessibility statement · Beavreno parts counter
Target WCAG 2.2 AA
Every part inquiry on this site can be sent with a keyboard alone.
Finding the right drain pump or faucet cartridge should not depend on holding a mouse steady. This is what we built for, what we know is still short, and the other ways to reach an appliance parts counter in Austin when the site gets in the way.
Self-assessed by the people who built it · no outside audit claimed
Where we stand
We aim for level AA of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.2. We have not paid for an external audit and we do not claim a certificate. The checks below were done by hand, page by page, with the tools named further down. Where we found a gap we either fixed it or listed it here.
Keyboard and focus
The first Tab on any page lands on "Skip to content". Every link, button, form field and option in the part matcher is reachable with Tab and operable with Enter or Space. Focus shows as a 2px burnt-orange ring with a 3px gap, which stays visible against both the dark ground and the raised panels.
Under 1024px the navigation lives in a drawer. When it opens, focus moves into it and stays there; Esc closes it and returns focus to the Menu button, and the page behind does not scroll. The catalogue group in the navigation is a native disclosure, so screen readers announce it as expanded or collapsed without any extra script.
Screen readers and structure
Each page has one h1, then headings in order. Landmarks mark the header, the main navigation, the main content and the footer. Photographs carry alt text that says what the part is, for example "Old and new washer drain pumps side by side with connectors visible". Icons are decorative and hidden from assistive technology; the word next to them carries the meaning.
Spec tables, such as the thread-pitch table on the fasteners page, use real header cells and a caption. Wide tables scroll inside their own box rather than pushing the page sideways, and that box can take keyboard focus so it scrolls with the arrow keys.
Forms and errors
Every field has a visible label above it, not a placeholder that vanishes on typing. Optional fields say so. When a field is wrong, the message appears next to it in words, the field is marked invalid for screen readers, and nothing relies on red alone. The messages are written to be useful: "That number won't dial. Check the digits." rather than "Invalid input".
The part matcher's result panel updates as you choose options. It is a live region, so a screen reader announces the new match confidence without you hunting for it. The "Send this to the counter" button fills the form for you, which saves retyping a model number on a phone keyboard.
Colour, type and zoom
Body text is sandy #EADFC8 on umber #1A1814, a contrast ratio above 13:1. Secondary text in #A99F8A sits above 6:1. Body type is 17px with a line height of 1.6 and lines capped near 64 characters. The layout reflows from 320px wide up, so zooming to 400% gives one column with no sideways scroll. Buttons and links are at least 44px tall, and labels wrap instead of being cut off.
Motion
Two running strips of part names and headings that slide in from the edge are the only movement. Hovering or focusing a strip pauses it. If your system is set to reduce motion, both strips stand still, the pulsing status dots stop, and headings appear in place. Nothing flashes, and no video or sound plays by itself.
What still falls short
- Photographs of parts are not a substitute for measurements. Alt text describes the part, but fine detail such as a connector key or spline count lives only in the photo and the spec rows. If you need that read aloud, ask the counter and we will describe it in words.
- The support chat announces new replies, but polls every five seconds, so a reply can take that long to be read out.
- The cookie bar appears at the bottom of the page and is reached last in the Tab order on long pages. It never blocks content, and Cookie settings in the footer reopens it.
- Map links in the footer go to an outside map service whose accessibility we do not control. The address is always written out in text.
How we tested
Keyboard only, in Firefox and Chrome. VoiceOver on macOS and iOS Safari, and NVDA on Windows with Firefox. Browser zoom at 200% and 400%. Viewport widths of 320, 360, 414, 768, 1024, 1440 and 1920 pixels. The reduced-motion setting on, then off. Automated checks catch maybe a third of real problems, so they were the start, not the finish.
Other ways to reach the counter
If any part of this site stops you, skip it. Call +1 (213) 555-0383 and read out the model number, or email [email protected] with a photo of the rating plate and a line about the part. You can also bring the old part to 105 River Road, Austin, Texas 85895, and we will measure it in front of you. The answer and price are the same whichever route you use.
Report a barrier
Tell us the page, what you were trying to do, and the browser or assistive technology you use. Send it to [email protected] or through the contact page. We reply within 7 days and say what we will change and roughly when. If the fix takes longer, we help you with the inquiry by phone or email in the meantime.
